廣泛閱讀 增廣見聞

Increase reading opportunities and access to multicultural resources

除教科書外，粵北山區(翁源縣)學童接觸課外書籍機會不多。最近兩年在縣城才建有公共書室，可是借閱需要收費，而且書籍種類單調。近一二年來，學校圖書室藏書量雖有增加，但採用關閉式管理，學生不能隨意翻閱圖書，而且英文圖書嚴重欠缺。我們不願看見粵北山區學童，在具有較多學習空間的高小及初中階段，其學習的求知慾卻受到環境的限制。透過香港眾多有心人士的書籍捐助，及燕云創辦人自資在深圳及翁源書城購書，分別於2009-2015年間在龍仙鎮及偏遠的學校，建立了多所燕云學與教資源中心，為當地老師及學童提供免費圖書及刊物。為此，本會培育當地學童擔任義工，協助借還書籍登記及管理。希望藉拓寬他們的視野的同時，孕育服務他人的情懷。英文程度較深的書籍，我們則贈送予韶關大學圖書館外語部。

Children in northern Guangdong Province (Wengyuen County) generally lack exposure to reading materials beyond their textbooks. Public reading lounges have been set up in recent years, but they charge a fee and only provide books from limited local sources. Schools also have increased their book repertoire, but students' access is restricted and English material remains severely lacking. With their elementary and high school years being a prime time for acquiring knowledge, it saddens us to see children being limited in their exposure to different ideas and thoughts during their youth. Through book donations from numerous people and private purchases, we have established learning centres in Longxian Town and two surrounding schools to provide reading materials freely to local teachers and students. English books that are more difficult to read were donated to Shaoguan University for a more appropriate audience.

Develop a habit of serving others

教與學資源中心的日常運作部份是靠當地學童義務擔當。透過培訓他們對其他老師、同學及市民的服務工作，希望能培養當地學童關懷及服務他人的精神，增加對社會的承擔。每年一度的燕云義工培訓營、義賣嘉年華、兩地義工交流會、燕云大團聚、義工嘉許禮等活動平台，除營造義工團隊精神外，都提高升了義工他們的組織能力、協作能力及創意解難能力，甚至增加對環保的觸覺。

The learning and teaching centres have set up volunteer systems for local students to contribute in the running of the place. It is hoped that by serving their fellow schoolmates and being involved in the different tasks of managing the books, they would be introduced to the idea of volunteering and develop a sense of responsibility in serving others and the society at large. Through platforms such as the annual gatherings, volunteers seminars, dialogue between volunteers and the occasional charity drive, we hope to increase their chances of exercising creativity and instil the value of recycling and charity.

英語學習，支援師生

Improve English proficiency through teachers training and providing English lessons

英語的教與學，在中小學基礎教育具關鍵的重要性，在這國際時代是無可置疑的，但在中國偏遠的山區學童，卻在英語的接觸及學習上，往往較城市為少。燕云教育基金會透過香港一群具英語專業的義工們，我們作出持續的努力，增加對山區老師在英語教學上有效的培訓及支援，也直接義務教導學童英語，協助及支援當地學童把學習英語學好。

The importance of English in this day and age can hardly be disputed, but the quality of English education the children in rural areas receive is often lower compared to those in large cities. Through partnership with volunteer teachers from Hong Kong, we hope to provide additional training for local teachers in English and help deliver English lessons from time to time.
